the big think

adding detail

story

Document #65 Jack Harkness: was born 31st September 2004... origin is unknown. Paranormal activity has been found around the boy's mother and father have been terminated as they have no use anymore. R-i-i-i-i-i-i-p!!!! Jack ripped the document in half... then into quarters. He threw it on the ground and sat on the couch with the other test subjects. You see, Jack was taken from his family when he was young for experiments and while monitoring him the doctor said he was ‘special.’ He doubted that. He stared at the TV in the laboratory. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show was playing. He sat there for a while, mesmerized by the dancing mouse. He was suddenly shaken out of his thoughts when his name was called or numbers. Since there were so many kids they were given a number as their name. He was project #69 the other kids looked at him, “Oh no,” were the only words in his mind. This is because nobody seemed to come back when they were called. He walked down the halls and into the lab with Dr. Hotchkin. He opened the door and then he realized why no one came back. A pile of burnt dead bodies lay in the corner of the room. Jack became scared, then angrily the Dr sat at a table in the middle of the test chamber with a coin on it. “Move the coin,” he said cool and collected as if the pile of bodies didn't bother him at all. Jack decided to play it safe. He flicked the coin across the table with his finger. “YOU IDIOT BOY!!” he yelled at him. “With your MIND!” he bellowed. Jack's anger finally overcame him. The coin shot over at Dr. Hotchkin right into his mouth. He started choking and Jack ran. Running, running... running. Through a maze of doors and chambers. He found himself back in the lab where the children were waiting. “GET OUT GET OUT!” he yelled. “We can’t,” said one of the kids “we need blow the reactor,” said another. “But what about the doctor!” said a child called George, or project #52 “he has a gun! He’ll mow us down!” “we have no choice but do so,” Jack said, “grab a weapon!” Jack said as he picked up a long glass beaker. There were various types of “weapons” metal poles glass balls strange liquids someone even found a needle gun. they set off on their journey, the rebellion. After what seemed like hours of searching the found it, the chamber “Three...Two...One...Now” whispered Jack. they smashed through the doors. Instantly there was carnage George was shot through the head. Blood and brains splattered all over Jack he threw the beaker it shattered on the doctor's head the doors to get outside opened the kids ran out the door “YES!!!!!!’’ screamed the kid sam the doctor shut the doors again. it was only the doctor and jack in the room Hotchkin pulled the gun from his pocket it flew from his hand to Jacks he shot the reactor twice three times he fired and fired and fired. He didn't care he was out of ammo he didn't care he was going to die he knew he see his mother and father soon… very soon.

Dumlings!!!

athletics

has anyone tried discus? are you good at it? I know I'm certainly not. you may think the same too so I'm gonna teach you how to improve your throw height, speed, length and technique
 Things to think about:
  • hold the discus so you're fingers curl around the edges (it will fall out of your hand if you tip it upside down)
  • throw the discus with your hand facing down
  • you may spin as you throw as it gives it more height

METHOD
hold discus with fingers slightly curled over the edges swing arm/arms with hand upside down as you thrust the discus forward let it slip from your grasp sending it flying.  keep repeating that step
over and over keep track of you're distances and set yourselfs some goals.

End of Term 2 2017 Reflection

End of Term 2 2017 Reflection

1. What has been the funniest, awesome, coolest achievement that has happened this term? The funniest thing that’s happened this term? I think that would be the time that I got my jumper stuck on my face I don’t even know how I did it (or why) but for now, Mr. Billings thinks I have a screw loose or something
2. What progress have you made with your reading, writing, inquiry, and maths learning this term? Provide evidence and examples of your thinking.
I think I have become A LOT smarter than I was in primary. It's like I have evolved like some kind of robot I can: type faster, answer maths questions faster… take today for example. I worked out 138 x 6 in about 4 mins
3. What are your aspirations for term 3?
Being class counselor AND sports captain and getting tons of gold points
4. Who is one ‘new’ person you would like to sit next to next term?
Next term I think I would like to sit next to Luca in class.
5. What is your goal for home-learning next term?
I want to be in that email that the teachers sent out to the parents!
6. What can your teacher do to support your progress and learning in term 3? Sorry but I can’t think of anything right now

Find an inspirational quote that is going to be your reference for term 3. Be sure to include it in your blog post

Lime Battery

One lime=0.95 volts
Two limes=1.96 volts
Image result for how does it workthree limes=2.9 volts and lit up a LED
HOW DID WE DO IT?
We put a piece of copper and a nail into a lime and connected it to a volt meter. this made electricity.
QUESTION
will it improve the effect if you put more wires/nails in?
yes! if you were to put in three nails and three copper you get three times as much electricity

Quad Death

Quad Death
Writing Purpose: To inform other HNI students the rules of the game and to develop our creative thinking ability.
Audience: Miss O’B, Mr Harman and HNI students
IMG_0448.JPGIMG_0450.JPG

Use your creativity to come up with 3 alternative names for this very exciting game!
Quad ball
The four team battle
Quad madness

Imagine another class here at HNI has not played this game before. Complete the rules below to clearly describe the aim of the game and exactly what the rules are.
Aim of the game:
Rules
  1. No standing on knees (or standing in general)
  2. Getting hit on the head is excruciatingly painful. so NO head shots
  3. No more than 1 scout in the teams!
  4. First to 4 points loses
  5. No  bad sportsmanship

Game Adaptations
Use your creative thinking to explore possible adaptations to this game to enhance both the fun factor and the ability to win the game. I have given you one example for each category but challenge yourself with other ideas and thinking.

Attack
Scouts
Game Plan/Strategy
  • Use balls other than netballs that aren’t as heavy so the speed of the travelling ball also speeds up the game.
  • 4 players from each quad are allowed to stand on the bleaches to scout out for flying balls but the “scouts” can not intercept flying balls.
  • People on the perimeter of the quad pass the ball to someone closer to the bleaches to allow them to throw it further into the opponent's area.

sheppard art reflection

our shepherd art exhibition was a blast! is was fun because it was awesome to see all the cool art that we did. I felt excited because I knew that a bunch of people were going to see my artwork. I really liked the colors other kids used. It was as if  a massive paint bomb exploded in the hall. I could her the chatter of excitement as the adults wandered into the hall here are some photos of our work.

the leaning pit

#The learning pit

Image result for the learning pit template

So what is the learning pit i hear you ask the learning pit is were 99.999% of people go but thats OK if you find yourself in the learning pit. anyway the learning pit is a place that you go when you think something is maybe hard or something that you do not understand. it also is one way to explain why more challenge leads to enhanced learning. It helps teachers structure lessons, and students challenge themselves. It comes with associated lesson ideas, and recommended activities for each stage of the Pit.                                                            vv v  vc

STRIKE PERCUSSION
I can see feel and hear the buzz of excitement all around the hall as the drummers start getting set up to do their performance of STRIKE PERCUSSION!  Yea sounds pretty cool does it? Next the drummers walk to the front of the stage and start wildly banging their drums the sound echoes across the hall all the students start reaching for their ears my favorite drumming piece was the tropic rain forest what I thought was the drummer sounded more like a tropic BIRD rather than a tropic log drummer! Last of all was the fire dance I could see the roaring flames erupting from the torch I think it really ended with a bang!

super powers and self portraits

super powers and self portraits

In room ten students are busy cross hatching and sketching... because today we are making self portraits!!
this is how we made them: well first we got black n white pics or selfies of ourselves then cross hatched our faces with "people crayons" these people crayons would be our skin next we did are hair... no I don't literally mean did our hair but you get what I mean anyway we used normale crayons for that well mostly brown and blond crayons because I don't think anyone's has bright green hair but then we did the background all we did was scrape the crayons across the paper but It was fun... ish.I did not like the finishing product...
my self portrait
now let me tell you about the superpowers ok so first we thought about what our superhero's were then we drew our superhero's my superhero was electron by far the best (or not) next we stuck them to a piece of colored card and put on them our super powers my super powers are: to make everybody laugh and be positive also I have the power to keep going and never give up!!! by ollie brown

Kate Sheppard

hello my name is ollie brown and here are some facts about Kate Sheppard. Born in Liverpool in 1847, Kate Malcolm migrated to Christchurch in her early twenties and in 1871 married merchant Walter Sheppard. In 1885 she joined the new WCTU, which advocated women’s suffrage as a means to fight for liquor prohibition. For Kate Sheppard, suffrage quickly became an end in itself. Speaking for a new generation, she argued, ‘We are tired of having a “sphere” doled out to us, and of being told that anything outside that sphere is “unwomanly”.’

Kate Sheppard was the leading light of the New Zealand women’s suffrage movement. In recent years her contribution to New Zealand’s identity has been acknowledged on the $10 note and a cool stamp!!
